A little more about the day:
Adam routinely facilitates a mushroom unit with his biology students where students team up and have to grow, sell and prepare shiitake mushrooms for a guest chef. This hands on unit is what inspired him to want to try growing our own. When we moved to Tailwind Acres, and had more land and space for such ventures we tried starting oyster mushrooms inside. Truthfully, it was a total flop! So, we decided to sign up for an intensive workshop at Midwest Organic Farming Conference. This helped us “think” like fungi and set the foundation to expand our operation. We grow for our own consumption, sell here and there via pop up sales and also have provided to restaurants throughout NE Iowa. Adam instructed some very popular workshops at the Decorah Public Library and at our farm showcasing mushrooms! Join us, as we can help you bypass the mistakes we made and set you up for growing and enjoying your own mushrooms!
